About

Youngstown State University (YSU) is an esteemed public university located in Youngstown, Ohio. It was established in 1908. It was known as Youngstown College in 1931 and with the change in educational needs in the Mahoning Valley, Youngstown college grew significantly to become Youngstown University in 1955. Later in 1967 it was changed to Youngstown State University.


Youngstown State University offers student life programs. Outside of class, there are around 140 student organizations on campus that offer students a deeper sense of community and a higher level of involvement on campus. It maintains Youngstown State Penguins sports groups, which participate in the NCAA Division I Horizon League along with fraternities, sororities and many more. Students are also provided with various other facilities including Stambaugh Stadium- one of the top FCS facilities in the country, Don Constantini Multimedia Center that houses “classroom of the future”, Beeghly Physical Education Center- a home to the basketball, volleyball, and swimming and diving programs with seating capacity of more than 6,000 and serves as the home court for the volleyball and basketball teams, YSU Softball Complex, WATTS- one of the more eye-popping buildings on campus with an indoor athletic facility containing a 300-meter competition track, a full-length football field, batting cages, a putting green, protective netting, and locker room facilities for the golf and track and field teams, Farmers National Bank Field, Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center, Cafaro Family Field, Indoor Tennis Center, Off-Campus Athletics Facilities, Beeghly Hall, Bliss Hall etc. On-campus housing and dining facilities are also provided. There are five residence halls namely Cafaro House, Kilcawley House, Lyden House, Wick House, and Weller House with staff members staying in every residence hall to cater to the emergencies faced by the resident students if any. College Factual 2019 ranks Youngstown State University as 337th out of a total 1,279 colleges and universities for popularity with international students. Youngstown State University suggests that international students make up about 3.6% of the student body (College Factual, 2019).
