About

The University of Plymouth, established as the School of Navigation in 1862, was given full university status in 1992. The research university is located in the south coast city of Plymouth, Devon and it is a state funded university, working under the sign of government, balancing civic responsiveness and an unusually international emphasis. Its main campus runs along the historic harbour of Plymouth—a combination for students of the cultural richness of a busy maritime city and alongside contemporary learning buildings and open spaces. Plymouth now offers a broad range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional courses in such subjects as marine biology, engineering, business, education, health and social work, arts and humanities, psychology, earth sciences, and computing. It is completely institutionally accredited by the UK Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), as well as subject-specific accreditation by institutions such as the British Psychological Society, the Nursing and the Midwifery Council, also the Association of MBAs. The university has over 30,000 students, of whom around 2,500–3,000 are international students from over 100 nations around the globe, who are also offered individual supporting services like the International Office, English language instruction, orientation need-orientated, peer mentoring, and specific accommodation facilities like 'International Houses'. Additional assistance is provided in the areas of immigration counseling, visa consulting, interview preparation, and cross-cultural orientation to facilitate the international students' academic and social success.
