Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN)

About

Memorial University of Newfoundland, established in 1925 as Memorial University College and attaining full university status in 1949, is a public institution based in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It maintains several campuses, including the main one in St. John's, Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook, the Marine Institute, and the Harlow Campus in England . As the largest university in Atlantic Canada, MUN prides itself on combining a scenic, supportive campus environment with access to ocean vistas and natural beauty—highlighted by its proximity to the Atlantic coast and infrastructure like enclosed “MUNnels” connecting buildings safely year-round.

Memorial offers over 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs across its faculties of Arts, Science, Engineering and Applied Science, Business Administration, Education, Medicine, Nursing, and the School of Graduate Studies, along with specialized units like the Marine Institute . Accredited by Canadian academic authorities such as Engineers Canada (for its engineering programs) and recognized for its medical and health sciences faculties, the university provides high-quality, rigorously evaluated education . With more than 18,000 students enrolled—including roughly 3,400 international students from 100+ countries—internationalization is a key strength, supported by a vibrant Internationalization Office that offers visa assistance, pre-arrival and orientation programs, housing support, peer mentoring, and cultural integration services . Facilities such as modern labs, extensive library systems (including the Queen Elizabeth II Library), athletic complexes like The Works, the Botanical Garden, and the Grenfell Art Gallery offer diverse academic and extracurricular opportunities tailored for a dynamic student body.
