How to Effectively Manage Time for your SAT Test

SAT is a landmark exercise in the life of a student, more so in the perspective of studying in the USA, Canada, or any other country. Getting a very good score in the SAT examination requires ample knowledge and time management skills. Following are some important points of practical advice which will help an individual manage his/her time effectively for SAT preparation and the examination itself.

1. Plan out your study schedule

An effectively prepared study schedule forms the basis of time management. One will have to break study time into manageable blocks, focusing on the different sections of SAT: Math, and Reading and Writing. It is essential to set realistic goals for each session and try to stick to the schedule. One must try to be consistent to be able to remember information and work on the skills developed over time.

2. Prioritize Your Weaknesses

Now, analyze exactly where you lack the most. Give more time to those topics; however, that does not imply that you will leave your strengths unattended. If math is looking hard for you, put in more hours of problem practice and concept revision. This focused approach will bring about more competency in the high priority areas for you.

3. Practice Under Real Conditions

Practice with full-length tests to simulate test-day conditions. Take each section for its full length: 64-minute section for Reading and Writing and 70-minute for Math section. This will help you get used to the timing pressure and work on your pacing.

4. Employ the Process of Elimination

If one is uncertain about the answer to a question in an exam, for instance, then the process of elimination can provide an educated guess. The process will save valuable time and improve the chances of selecting the right answer.

5. Review and Reflect

Review your answers for the practice test. After each practice test, identify common mistakes and focus on the conceptual understanding. Reflective practice strengthens learning and may lessen the likelihood of repeating a mistake.

6. On Test Day, Relax and Concentrate

Anxiety is one of the major time-wasters on test day. Stay calm and focused. If you happen to not know the answer to a question, don't be anxious. Try to solve the easy questions first and then go back to the harder ones. This would mean you could maximize your score by completing a higher number of questions.
